If you are new to Clash of Kings, you must wonder how does the whole lord’s equipment forging system work. In this complete guide, we will teach you exact strategies and steps to create that awesome gear. We will first go through the basic information how the system works, then we will move on to the best practice for you to craft and forge.
This guide will go through material harvesting, steel generation, and finally crafting strategy at the end of this guide to help you forge equipment as efficiently as possible. Please note that the beginning of the guide can be basic is written more for beginners, however later part of the guide will discuss actual strategies to improve equipment forging.
How to Forge Equipment from Blacksmith
Forging gears can be created from Blacksmith building. In general, the equipment forging requires three things in Clash of Kings, Lord Level, Steel, and finally Materials. Starting from equipment level 1, Higher Lord level unlocks additional equipment that offer equipment with much higher stats.
To forge the equipment, you will need to find the needed material for the equipment as well obtaining enough steel to forge. If you do not have the needed material, you will see a note “insufficient material”.
Each forging assembly attempt will require an equipment or an “equipment” substitute of a 1 step lower or the same. For example, if you are forging a level 10 equipment, you will need all the materials, plus a level 5 equipment. The only exception to this rule is level 1 equipment which requires no other gear piece.
Forging equipment will require some time, the higher level equipment will take more time. You generally should never use speed up to craft your gears, the reason is that you will end up spending more time gathering the needed steel and material.
Equipment Quality and Material Quality
Materials all have quality rating to them, for material synthesis to work, it takes 4 of the same tier to synthesize into a higher tier. This means that high quality material can take a long time to farm. By forging an equipment with materials and equipment of all the same quality, you can achieve 100% forging chance for your target color.
It should be noted that you can also “synthesize” your equipment just like material. The equipment being synthesized or merged need to be exact with 4 copies, you can then bump it into a higher tier.
You can also dissemble your existing equipment into materials. However, you will lose some of the materials compared to your cost. Your best bet is to keep the equipment, and use it to gamble to improve its tier.

How to Get Materials for Forging
There are a few ways to get materials in Clash of Kings. We will list the best ways and cheapest ways on where and how to get materials.
1. Workshop Crafting
Workshop crafting is by far the most efficient and free method to obtain forging materials. It can be accessed near the farm plots of your castle. At the point of writing, you can craft either level 1 or level 2 green material by tapping the little gray icon. The speed for both level is the same, however as you boost your workshop crafting speed via Research, we recommend only craft level 2 materials to make sure that your workshop is always working.
You will need to spend some gold to unlock all the slots for crafting, if you plan to play for a long time, unlocking all of the slots can be a good investment for the long run. With all the workshop accelerate research completed, it takes roughly an hour to generate a level 2 green material.
2. Gathering from Resource Plots
Resource plots can offer you level 1 or 2 material drops during gathering. Depending on where the material resource plots that you are farming, different materials can be looted. To improve the material gathering ability, consider boosting the following research: Gathering Speed under Resources, and Material Collection under Equipment research tree.
Saw Mill: Maple, Fur, Horn
Farm: Grass, Bone, Cloth
Iron Mine: Bronze, Cobalt, Amber
Mythril, Jade, Garnet, Crystal
3. Killing Monsters
You can receive forging materials randomly upon killing of the wild monsters.
4. Buying Material Chests from Store
Chest can be bought from the store with gold, in addition, sometimes you can get rare material chests from traverling merchant. However, they are generally way overpriced and you could spend your gold in other places. In short, buying material with gold is generally not worthwhile.
100 Gold: Small Material Chest
75 Gold: Ordinary Material Chest
280 Gold: Small Material Chest
5. Completing Events
Certain events will reward you with either materials or material chests.
6. Winning Lucky Wheel
Lucky wheel chests reward you with either materials or material chests.
7. Buying Packs
Lastly, the fastest way to get high level gear is by buying packs if you have the money. However, to get full legendary or gold rarity equipment can still cost you thousands of dollars at a higher levels.
How to Get the Steel needed to Forge
As you need to forge higher level equipment, you will find yourself constantly running out of steel. To be able to have enough steel, you need to boost your steel production, as well as reducing the cost of forging your equipment. Below are the ways:
1. Steel from Wishing Well
If you are a serious player, you should almost always wish for steel from the wishing well, at least until you have forged all the gears you need. Higher level equipment can cost alot of steel especially around level 25~30.
To improve the amount of steel that you can get, upgrade Wishing Will level and only wish for Steel for all of your wishes. And research “Wishing for Steel” under the Equipment research tree.
2. Other Ways to get Steel
Many other game play features such as monster kill, special event, or lucky wheel have chances that reward you with steel. However, you do not need to pay too much attention to this, just get them whenever they become available.
3. Reduce Your Steel Consumption
Next, you need to limit your steel consumption to make your pile of steel lasting longer. You can reduce steel forge cost by upgrading Blacksmith, and research Steel Consumption under equipment research tree.
Clash of Kings Blacksmith Forging Strategy Walkthrough
With all the basics out of the way and you get an understanding of how to get steel and material for forging. We will not go through actual strategy and tips to guide you on the right path.
1. Always go for 100% Forging Chance
Whenever you forge with unequal material qualities, the balance will always tip towards the lower end. For example, if you craft a white and green equipment. You will get 60% white and 40% green chance. This means that you “LOSE” everytime you forge with uneven materials. Always go for 100% quality that you are aiming for. Never gamble and take the loss if you are crafting your gear set for the first time.
2. Start with PURPLE quality only
Purple quality gears material requirement more or less fall in line with your steel generation rate. They also offer decent stats that you can stick with for a long time even at around level 35 range. This means that starting from level 1, forge your equipment as PURPLE rated and work the levels up. Your goal is to have PURPLE or better equipment at your Lord’s level.
3. Forge and Keep Different Sets of Gears for Different Purpose
Once you start getting higher level equipment, you may find that it is much easier to keep a few sets of Purple equipment than a piece of gold. The reason is that you may want a full set with Building or Research Speed boosts whenever you want to start a build. Or you may want to focus on farming resource increases during no combat times. And finally you want to use the equipment boosts for the right troop type.
4. How to Gamble for Tier Up
When you really want to gamble for a tier up, only do so with the higher tier materials that push your equipment into the next level. For example, to upgrade a level 5 Purple into level 10 Orange equipment. You should Forge the level 5 purple with only Orange materials. Please note that this is a gamble that will always result in long term losses. Only do so after you already have a few sets of Purples and you want to push your Purple Gears and try your luck.
